How to add notes?
Follow the below steps to add notes:
Step #1
(see the screenshot below)
Access the Student Details Drawer from three different locations:
Learners List – The complete list of students enrolled in your institution or organization.
Course Members – The list of students specific to a particular course.
Course Progress Page – A section that displays individual student performance metrics.
Step #2

Once inside the Student Details Drawer, switch to the Notes tab to access the note-taking interface.

(see the screenshot below)
Select "Add Note" to open the note editor. Here, you can type relevant details about the student, such as progress updates, behavioral observations, or intervention strategies.
Step #4
(see the screenshot below)
You can choose whether a note is:
Public – Shared with other instructors and team members.
Private – Visible only to the instructor who created it.
Step #5
Once the note is written and the visibility settings are selected, click "Save" to store it. The note will now be accessible in the Notes tab under the respective student’s profile.
Organizational vs. Course-Specific Notes
(see the screenshot below)
Notes can be categorized based on their scope of visibility within the system:
Organizational Notes
These notes are visible across all courses within the organization.
If a student is enrolled in multiple courses, instructors in different courses will be able to see the same organizational notes about them.
Useful for tracking long-term student progress, academic interventions, or general remarks that apply beyond a single course.
Course-Specific Notes
These notes are visible only within the course where they were added.
Instructors in other courses will not see these notes.
Ideal for documenting course-specific details such as assignment performance, participation, or attendance issues.
Public vs. Private Notes
(see the screenshot below)
The Notes feature provides flexible visibility options to ensure the right people have access to the necessary information.
Public Notes
Visible to all instructors and team members with access to the student’s details.
Useful for sharing important insights, such as struggling students, exceptional performance, or specific teaching strategies.
Encourages collaboration among educators and allows teams to align on student support strategies.
Private Notes
Visible only to the instructor who created them.
Ideal for personal observations, reminders, or sensitive student-related information.
Helps instructors keep track of insights that may not need to be shared with the entire team.
Access Notes Easily
To help instructors efficiently manage and retrieve notes, Teachfloor provides two distinct categories for organizing them:
"My Notes"
Displays only the notes created by the instructor viewing them.
Helps individual instructors keep track of their personal notes without clutter from team contributions.
"Team Notes"
Displays notes added by other instructors and team members.
Allows educators to see insights shared by colleagues, fostering better collaboration and a more holistic approach to student support.
