The Leaderboard is a gamification widget that motivates learners through friendly competition by ranking members according to the points they've earned from achievements.
As learners complete courses, participate in discussions, maintain learning streaks, and unlock badges, they automatically earn points that contribute to their position on the leaderboard.
The Leaderboard is organization-wide, allowing members to see how they compare with others and celebrate their progress.
Before You Start
The Leaderboard depends on Teachfloor's gamification system.
Before using it, make sure:
✅ Achievements & Badges are enabled.
✅ The Leaderboard widget has been added to the dashboard where you want members to see it.
Without these two settings, the Leaderboard will not appear.
Step 1: Enable Achievements & Badges
Go to:
Settings → Customization → Gamification
Enable:
✅ Enable Achievements
Once enabled, members begin earning points automatically as they unlock achievements.
Step 2: Add the Leaderboard Widget
The Leaderboard is available as a Dashboard Widget.
To display it:
Open the dashboard you want to customize.
Enter Edit Dashboard mode.
Click Add Widget.
Select Leaderboard.
Save your dashboard.
You can add the Leaderboard to:
Student dashboards
Instructor dashboards
Because dashboards are fully customizable, each organization can decide where the Leaderboard fits best.
How the Leaderboard Works
Every achievement in Teachfloor awards points.
As learners unlock badges, their points are automatically added to their organization-wide score.
The Leaderboard updates automatically, ranking members based on their total achievement points.
No manual updates or calculations are required.
How Learners Earn Points
Members earn points by unlocking achievements through activities such as:
Completing courses
Completing lessons
Maintaining login streaks
Publishing community posts
Commenting in discussions
Completing their profile
Reaching engagement milestones
Unlocking additional achievements
The more achievements a learner earns, the higher they climb in the rankings.
Why Use a Leaderboard?
Leaderboards are one of the most effective gamification mechanics for increasing engagement.
Benefits include:
Increased learner motivation
Higher course completion rates
More community participation
Better daily engagement
Recognition for active learners
Stronger sense of community through friendly competition
Rather than learning in isolation, members become part of an active learning environment where every achievement contributes to their overall ranking.
