What is a Custom Domain?

When you first create a Teachfloor course, it will be given a teachfloor.com URL, formatted as follows: app.teachfloor.com.

Setting up your own custom domain allows you to access your Teachfloor course dashboard with a domain that you own. You can replace your teachfloor.com URL with a branded domain that can be formatted like app.yoursite.com.

Custom Domain Requirements

To set up a Custom Domain for your Teachfloor course dashboard, you require the following:

  1. A domain purchased from a domain host such as: Namecheap, Bluehost, Hover, GoDaddy, etc.

How to Set Up Your Custom Domain in Your Domain Host

Before you can set up a custom domain for your Teachfloor course dashboard, you will need to register your chosen domain with a domain host if you haven't already. Some popular domain hosts include Namecheap, Bluehost, or Godaddy. If you already have your own website, then you should already own a domain. If you're not sure where this is registered, then you can use or purewhois.com or lookup.icann.org to find out who your domain host is.

How to Set Up Your Custom Domain in Teachfloor

  1. Login in to your Teachfloor dashboard

  2. Click on settings > Customize

  3. Enter your custom domain inside the Domain Settings field (we suggest using a subdomain as course.yoursite.com)

  4. Create a DNS CNAME record that points to "custom.teachfloor.com" for the domain you specified.

Set Up a CNAME record

The following general instructions apply to all domain hosts, but remember that each domain host will have a slightly different interface for setting this up.

  1. Log in to your Domain host (Namecheap, Bluehost, Hover, GoDaddy, etc.)

  2. Select your domain to access the Domain Settings page.

  3. Select Manage DNS

  4. Add a new record

  5. Select CNAME

  6. Enter the details for your new CNAME record (custom.teachfloor.com)

  7. Save your changes

Once your record has been successfully saved, you are all set in your domain host!

If you are changing your CNAME from previously saved values, it can take 24 hours or more before the change takes effects on all the servers worldwide. If that's the case, you'll need to wait until you see it reflected.
