What Is the SCORM Element?

(See screenshot below)

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a widely used standard for packaging interactive e-learning content. It ensures your course modules can be reused across platforms — making it ideal for simulations, assessments, and third-party learning packages.

With Teachfloor’s SCORM element, you can seamlessly upload and deliver SCORM 1.2 and 2004-compliant files to your learners, with tracking support and full interactivity.

⚡ Don’t Have a SCORM File Yet?

No problem! Teachfloor provides free native SCORM converters to help you transform your existing training material into fully compatible SCORM packages — no technical knowledge required.

✅ Convert Your Files to SCORM:

💡 These tools let you build SCORM courses from your own documents and videos in just a few clicks — no external software needed.

➕ How to Add a SCORM Element

  1. Navigate to the course Curriculum.

  2. Click ➕ Add Element on the left sidebar.

  3. Select SCORM from the list.

🗂 SCORM files must be in .zip format, up to 2GB in size.

(See screenshot below)

⚙️ Basic Element Settings

Like all content elements in Teachfloor, the SCORM element includes General, Requirements, Visibility, and Metadata settings.

👉 To avoid repetition, we’ve detailed those shared configurations in a separate article:

If you’re new to setting up elements, we recommend reviewing that article first. Then return here for specific SCORM guidance.

🎯 SCORM-Specific Settings

(See screenshot below)

After you’ve configured the general settings, scroll down to the SCORM Settings section — this is where the core functionality of this element lives.

1. 📤 Upload SCORM File

(See screenshot below)

Upload your .zip SCORM package directly.

The SCORM file must include a valid imsmanifest.xml in the root folder.

2. 🆔 Student ID Identifier

(See screenshot below)

Choose how Teachfloor identifies the learner inside the SCORM tracking system.

  • User ID – Unique identifier generated by Teachfloor.

  • Email Address – Learner’s registered email.

This is used by the SCORM API to personalize progress and reporting within the module.

3. 🖼 Aspect Ratio

(See screenshot below)

Define how the SCORM module will display to learners.

Option

Use Case

4:3

Best for legacy content or fixed screen sizes

16:9

Ideal for modern widescreens and video-based content

Custom

Optional advanced configuration via CSS or container overrides

🧠 Tip: If unsure, start with 16:9 for the most universal compatibility.

👀 Learner View

Once published:

  • The SCORM content appears embedded in the course.

  • Learners can launch full-screen (if supported by the SCORM package).

  • Progress tracking is handled internally by the SCORM engine.

Here is what a SCORM file will look like;

🧪 Best Practices

✅ Use Teachfloor’s converters for fast and easy SCORM packaging.

✅ Keep files under 2GB to ensure fast loading.

✅ Test your SCORM module from a learner's perspective before publishing.

🛠 Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

SCORM won’t upload

Ensure the file is zipped and contains imsmanifest.xml

No tracking data

Confirm your SCORM is calling LMSInitialize() and LMSFinish()

Layout issues

Try adjusting the aspect ratio or test in full-screen mode
